7 Ages: Collector's Edition launch November 22 8am AEST Posted on 14 Nov 01:47 , 0 comments

7 Ages: 6000 years of human history was first released in 2004. After a decade of further development Australian Design group is thrilled to announce the upcoming release of its greatest ever game, 7 Ages: the Collector’s Edition.

7 Ages encompasses the globe from 4000 bce to today. It includes 165 of the world’s greatest civilisations, each with its own special powers, its famous leaders, their ability for trade and their hopes and dreams that they wish will lead them to glory.

You, as one of the greatest dynasties of all time, must chart a trusty  course for each civilisation that is lucky enough to have you as their benign ruler. By advancing your culture, art, science, and architecture you will gain glory for yourself and, almost as importantly, your people. And of course you cannot ignore expanding the borders of your realm, not because of any personal greed, of course not, simply so that everyone in the world becomes lucky enough to have you in charge of their, from then on, glorious future.

Facing you is up to 6 venal weak lords who scandalously oppress their own people and snub your every reasonable suggestion. So it won’t be easy but with guile, skill and diplomacy I’m sure you will emerge triumphant and glorious while joining the immortals in the elysian fields.

Backer’s Choice

We design games for you. Which of the following would you like to see as expansion stretch goals 1, 2 and 3?

1) 8th player (I countersheet of 3 empires and 11 empire cards). This brings the game up to 8 players maximum and two extra artefacts (Nobel prize and Temple of Halicarnassus)

2) Specialist units (eg paras, marines, special forces, cuiraseers, clibinarii, engineers etc) in neutral colours (like elephants) that are available to every empire when conditions are met (2 countersheets)

3) Specialist empires (eg aircraft heavy, ship heavy, inf heavy etc) that are extra that anyone can choose after their 2nd empire is in play (but you can only ever have one more than the player with the least) includes 2 countersheets

4) Artefact deck of cards which explains all the artefact rules, requirements and benefits on the card which you place on your empire instead of the counter so you don’t need to look up the rules to see all the effects (110 cards)

5) Some like it hot – age 8 where all fertile and forest are desert all jungle is fertile and oil income is zero and its filled with exotic space weapons, specialist units and 11 age 7-8 empire cards and one CS

6) Team play – special cards dealt out at the start of the game (and card sleeves to keep them in, one for each player) that tell you who your secret friend is and who your secret enemy is. Victory is decided by your points plus half the points of your secret chum minus half the points of your secret enemy. (21 cards and seven 7 Ages sleeves)

7) Conflict resolution battle boards and screen that you use to resolve conflict. 2 large boards with screens in the middle with positions (so two conflicts can be resolved simultaneously) both sides for front and backup, reserve and committed units and for the card played. ~ 2 cardoard conflict resolution boards with one screen each

8) Player mats, 1 per player for your cards and related counters ~ 7 cardboard mats in 7 colours

Each backer who pledges for a reward will get up to 10 votes per expansion stretch goal. Rank them how you want them (giving 10 for each is very enthusiastic but doesn’t help us choose, it’s not a target it’s a competition between expansions). If you have any suggestions, please email us at australiandesigngroup@gmail.com and we will try to include them during the campaign.

Note that all these stretch goals will be released post-release of the game and, depending on how complex the expansion is that you ask for, may take up to a year post-release (some of course are quite easy and will only be slightly delayed).

We were considering a 9th expansion that is intriguing

9)  Build your own empire. You start with minimal units (spearmen and archers) and you decide based on tech (you choose a tech path with each trade and if you succeed you get those units in your force pool for one of your empires). The kit includes lots of different types of units for each empire. Some units have qualitative advantages over other unit commitments (like we have now if infantry and missile are facing cavalry or aircraft). This expansion would include several new countersheets one for each empire, a total of 1 techboard and 7 countersheets

But this could be quite an exercise to compete within a year as it requires new units, a tech tree and a link between the units and the tree. We have some ideas as to how this could be simply and interestingly done (the 7 Ages mantra) but perhaps we can discuss the various ideas during the crowdfunding campaign.

As you can see the only thing you get less of is standard rules (only 10 pages now!) as we want you to get into our game as soon as possible. If you would like to peruse the rules, they are available for free download on the Australian Design Group’s download page. If you have any queries there is still time for edits.

Join the Immortals

They say you die 3 times, once when you die, once when you are buried and once when your name is no longer spoken.

In a thousand years’ time when the aliens are fossicking through the rubble of our civilisation they will come across a glass museum case strangely unbroken with a slightly tarnished box inside containing the world's greatest game with a plaque reading "Exemplary example of a historical boardgame, circa 2000 CE".

And when they open the box and look at all the funny little squiggles, I'm fairly positive that they are going to say in a very husky alpha centauran accent

"Who's Harry Rowland?"

But maybe I'm wrong and it will be your name instead!?!

      *********************

Is this you?

Note:  Immortals must provide a digital portrait image of high printable quality within one week of purchase (to ensure we can add you to the game before the counters go to print). Australian Design Group reserves the right to refuse any image for any reason and you will be refunded in this case.

Each Immortal will receive a 7 Ages Deluxe 3 Pack (ADG63C) and 1 leader with 1 ability.  With your portrait please send the top 3 leader abilities that fit your spirit (see 7 Ages CE rules for the 10 available) in preference order. We will do our best to give you your preferred  ability, but ADG reserves the right to apply the ability required for the game to work. Game theory says however that if all 10 Immortals give 3 choices then there will be many combinations that will work for everyone and you will end up with one of your choices (can’t spend immortality grumpy after all!).

Immortality in the game will be offered on the Australian Design Group site precisely 24 hours before the start of the Crowdfunding campaign (i.e. Friday 21st November, 8am AEST), check the timetable above to find out what that time is where you are.

Immortality was intended to be part of the crowdfunding campaign, but payment from Gamefound is only received several weeks after the campaign’s end. Our customers want 7 Ages to go to print as soon as possible, if possible, which it is at the end of the campaign provided the payment and Immortal inclusion into the game occurs during the Crowdfunding campaign as everything else is ready to go.

Customers who order Immortality from the ADG site will still get all the eligible stretch goals that the campaign pledge backers will receive, you will be included in the vote for Backer’s choice, and your immortal support will be added to the crowdfunding total to ensure everyone will receive the maximum number of Stretch goals your combined support achieves.

*********************

Thank you very much for your support for our games and I hope 7 Ages provides a truly memorable, happy and glorious experience.
